It’s important to just get going. Figure out what works for you and just get going. Unfortunately, not everyone can be so free spirited about things. Some people really like to get into the details of fitness and their routines. These are the type of people that want to maximize on every little thing they do.

While we are obviously huge believers in the Paleo Diet, you should exercise no matter what your eating lifestyle is. We urge you to look into the American Paleo Diet, however, so that you can eat naturally and safely for the ultimate in fat burning – ALONG with your exercise plan!

The BEST Time to Exercise

If you are one of the detail freaks, it may be worth it to know the best time of day to work out. Should it be in the morning or at night? Will you experience different results at different times? Will you sleep better if you work out right before bed? When is the best time to exercise? Does an optimal time even exist?

Performance

The best time of day to exercise for weight loss performance is probably during the afternoon to early evening. Several recent studies have proven that this time period has provided the best overall increases in performance. Great exercises for performance include lifting weights, HIIT cardio, resistance training, and some sprinting.

If you plan on sprinting, the afternoon is the best time for performance increases. Sprinting may be tough, but it is HUGELY important to burning fat — and it is way quicker to finish than boring, slow LISS cardio too. (LISS = Low Intensity Steady State).

Light exercise, such as jogging, walking, or hiking, that relies on stamina may not be subject to time constraints. It’s most likely that you will get the same workout at any time of the day with these types of exercises.

Overall, the best time of day for power and performance increases is the afternoon and evening. Stamina, however, is not affected by the time of day.

Hormonal Effects

Is there a correlation between when to exercise and your hormonal profile? There has been one study that has shown a higher anabolic testosterone / cortisol ratio during evening workouts. Cortisol levels were lower at night and higher in the morning.

There was another study, however, that showed muscle growth was almost identical during workouts in the morning and afternoon, with a very slight advantage to exercising at night.

The takeaway here is that it’s probably better to do your workouts later in the day to get the maximum benefit in terms of hormone levels.

Best Time to Exercise – Overall Health

Is there an effect on general health depending on the time you exercise? Well, the results are mixed. In a recent study of post-menopausal women, two groups were separated into walking teams. One group walked in the morning, and one group walked at night. The group that walked at night showed the greatest benefit.

Other recent studies have shown that increasing the amount of exercise may actually increase intelligence. The tests measured the HAT/HDAC ratio in rats. The results showed a higher acetylation occurrence in the afternoon. This may indicate that performing workouts after lunch or later can possibly increase mental function in addition for muscle gains.

When testing blood fluidity, time didn’t matter at all. Treadmill sessions were monitored during the morning and afternoon for their effect on blood fluidity after exercise. The fluidity increased overall regardless of the time of exercise. A similar study involving resistance training also proved that time of day was irrelevant. Both morning and afternoon workouts proved to be equally helpful.

When it comes to general health and the best time to exercise, both afternoon and night sessions seem to be the most beneficial. However, morning sessions are helpful as well, just not as much as workouts that occur later in the day.

Sleep

When determining the quality of sleep, will there be an increase in quality if the workout is performed later in the day? Will you be too wound up to fall asleep if you workout too close to bed time? Or, will the exhaustion of the workout help you fall asleep faster?

After several studies, there was very little evidence to show that late workouts will negatively affect sleep. The studies did show that workouts that occurred after 4pm at night did help some people who had problems getting to sleep to rest more comfortably. Many of the participants reported that they experienced no change.

The take away here is that unless your late workouts are keeping you from sleeping, your workout times don’t have much of an effect on sleep patterns. This is more of a case-by-case type of thing.

Sustainability

Who is better at sustaining workout routines? Morning exercisers or Afternoon/Evening Exercisers?

The study that was performed to measure sustainability of routines found that morning exercisers were more likely to exercise in general and that people working out later in the day tended to be less active. However, there are many other factors that play into this that may make this study unreliable.

When all is said and done, what really matters is what works for you. The best time of day to exercise for weight loss is the time that yields the most personal benefit!

Saturated Fat – Not the Villain We Thought It Was?

American Paleo Diet

is saturated fat bad for you

is saturated fat healthy

saturated fat

saturated fat healthy

saturated fat vs unsaturated fat
<guid

Too much red meat, too much dairy, fatty bacon, and greasy burgers are a one way trip to heart failure, right? It is much healthier to have a diet full of whole grains, legumes, and lean meat, right? Well, the true answer may not be that simple at all. The fact of the matter is that we have been conditioned since the middle of the twentieth century to believe that saturated fat is responsible for clogged arteries and heart disease when there is very little evidence to support such claims.

During the 1950’s, the Seven Countries Study was conducted by Ancel Keys to determine the correlation, if any, between diet and the rising amount of cardiovascular disease in America. As the name suggests, seven separate countries throughout the world were surveyed for the amount of fat consumed compared to the amount of deaths related to heart disease. Americans topped the list for highest fat consumption and highest amount of heart disease among the seven countries. The Japanese survey showed that their people ate the least amount of fat and had the least amount of deaths related to heart disease. This was the beginning of the vilification of saturated fat.

The problem with all of this was the blind acceptance of the Seven Countries Study and other flawed studies. Other determinants were completely ignored, control groups were not set up properly, and participants failed to complete the entire length of the study. The correlation between saturated fat and heart disease was only assumed despite the lack of any clinically proven studies.

The truth is that there have been, and currently are, cultures that live entirely off of foods full of saturated fat and exhibit virtually no heart disease. The Masai, for instance, are a nomadic tribe in Kenya and Tanzania. Their diet consists of whole milk, red meat, and blood from herded cattle. You would probably assume the majority of their people are obese or, at least, stricken with widespread heart disease. This could not be further from the truth. Their culture was free of heart disease and had the lowest level of cholesterol ever recorded.

But, how could this be true is saturated fat is SO bad for you?

Well, what is Saturated Fat?

This section is going to have a bit of science in it, but it is the worth the read if you are truly interested in living the healthiest lifestyle for your personal goals. Saturated Fat (SFAs OR Saturated Fatty Acids) gets its name due to the fact that all of its carbon bonds have a hydrogen atom attached to them. This is the opposite of a polyunsaturated fatty acid which is known for having multiple pairs of double bonds without a hydrogen atom occupying the opening space. Because there are no openings in the SFA bond, they are able to avoid spoilage and rancidity. This also makes them heat resistant and shelf stable.

The saturated fat molecule is actually essential to many of our bodily functions. About fifty percent of our cell membranes are composed of saturated fats that contain important fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins D, A, and K2. Many people have opted to get these vitamins through supplements, but the truth is that vitamins are not fully absorbed through pills. The best way to get the maximum absorption of vitamins is through real food. This begins a compelling argument in favor of consuming saturated fats.

Besides providing essential vitamins to our body, saturated fat is a great and natural source of energy. When eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and abstaining from negative vices, saturated fat becomes what it should be; a key energy source. It’s when we flood our bodies with alternative energy sources for an immediate boost that saturated fat becomes stored as body fat. This body fat never gets burned off for one reason or another, whether it’s lack of exercise or the flood of unhealthy energy sources such as coffee and too much sugar.

The point of all of this is simple. Saturated fat will work wonders for us if we allow our bodies to function as nature intended. It may take a while to adjust to a routine that includes regular exercise and a healthy diet that doesn’t include flooding the system for an immediate response. Once we start this new and healthy routine, saturated fat will act as a balanced, natural energy source.

Saturated Fat VS Carbohydrates

Both saturated fat and carbohydrates need to be examined when discussing their individual effects on health. Saturated fat is associated negatively with cholesterol levels, while carbohydrates are associated negatively with triglyceride levels. However, the fallacy in the previous statement exists in the fact that saturated fat doesn’t harm the body, even if it does raise cholesterol.

When talking about cholesterol, you need to review both LDL (bad) cholesterol and HDL (good) cholesterol. Saturated fat does, in fact, raise LDL cholesterol. However, it raises HDL cholesterol substantially more. HDL generally negates the LDL cholesterol. Because of the excess HDL cholesterol that is left after the LDL is negated, it can be said that consuming saturated fat is healthy! As long as you consume a higher proportion of HDL cholesterol, saturated fat will always benefit you. It will actually lower your chance of heart disease.

Consuming foods high in saturated fat actually decrease the amount of saturated fat in your blood. This is because the saturated fat in your blood is obtained from both your liver and the food that you consume. If you indulge on carbohydrates, your insulin levels will climb and cause your liver to produce more saturated fat. Alternatively, a low-carb and higher fat diet will cause insulin levels and saturated fat levels to drop off in the blood levels.

Carbohydrates are responsible for elevated triglyceride levels, which are just as bad for you as LDL cholesterol in terms of heart disease. It has been well documented that, since the 1970’s, men in America have increased carb intake by 23 percent while decreasing saturated fat intake by 14 percent. The blaring red flag with this statistic is the fact that obesity and heart disease have climbed substantially in the subsequent years. It is clear that it is carbohydrates, not saturated fat, which has caused the increase in poor health.

Tying It All Together

Is saturated fat bad for you? Is saturated fat healthy? Well, if you read the entirety of this article, you would know that saturated fat can be extremely healthy for you when consumed correctly. Improperly vilified and glorified by the media as a leading cause of heart disease, this vitamin-packed and energy producing fat hasn’t been given a fair shot.

The studies that “prove” that saturated fat directly leads to heart disease (and death) have been full of errors. Participants have fallen off track with their diets, other substances that could cause disease have been introduced, control groups have been contaminated, and cross sections have been way too small to prove anything substantial. And yet, it is these same studies that we have based our banishment of saturated fat on.

When talking about overall health, balance is the key. Too many carbs or too much saturated fat will probably yield unexpected problems in one way or another. A balance of a proper healthy diet, exercise, anaerobic training, family, friends, and fun is the true key to a long lasting and healthy life. A great way to achieve this is to find a diet that incorporates the entire lifestyle. The American Paleo Diet (http://www.americanpaleodiet.com/) is one such lifestyle. Its goal is to get people to start living and eating in the same way our ancestors did when there wasn’t any of the disease that has become rampant over the past few centuries. The American Paleo Diet will have you eating veggies, fruits, eggs, meats, seafood, and nuts. Just about anything that is natural is on the menu. You’ll be abstaining from anything that is processed or doesn’t occur in nature in one way or another. If you’re really worried about your health, then it’s definitely worth it to give this a try.

Not many people like to change their habits. It has been told to us again and again how “bad” saturated fat is for our bodies. However, our bodies do need these fats in order to live a long healthy life. It is up to us to do the research, find the facts, and spread the news so that we can get rid of disease that we bring on ourselves and provide a better future for our children. Mark Sisson has a BA in biology, so he gets the theory, and he’s also a former world-class endurance athlete, so he gets the practice. This book is an excellent introduction to the paleo diet and lifestyle and explains 1-Why paleo works, and 2-Why other things you’ve probably tried haven’t. Mark Sisson’s Primal Blueprint explores the parallels and differences between the lives of our ancient ancestors and our modern lives. You’ll see how healthy lifestyle choices our distant ancestors made can serve us in the modern era, with some tweaks to fit modern life.

Primal Blueprint Reviews and the 10 Steps to a Healthy Lifestyle

Primal Blueprint reviews testify to the effectiveness of this all-natural diet and if you look up what readers are saying, you’ll see just how many lives the paleo diet has transformed for the better. Additionally, by subscribing to Sisson’s website, you can download the free Primal Blueprint Reader’s Cookbook and the free Primal Blueprint Fitness Cookbook.

One of the best things you’ll discover while reading the Primal Blueprint is Mark Sisson’s 10 steps to natural living. These steps encompass not only the food you eat but other aspects of how you live, and they’re so basic that they are applicable to just about anyone. Not only that, but you can customize them to your heart’s content in order to create the perfect blueprint for a healthier you.

The Primal Blueprint Cookbook

The first step is to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and meat. This forms the core of the paleo diet. Mark Sisson has also published The Primal Blueprint Cookbook which contains a lot of delicious recipes to get you started! Step two is to do a lot of low level aerobic exercise. For your ancestors that meant a lot of foraging and migration. For you it probably means walking, hiking, or similar activities.

Step three is to lift heavy objects—in modern day that means strength training. The fourth step is to sprint or do another high intensity aerobic activity a few times each week. This does not mean every day, or for long time periods.

The next step should be easy! But for many people, getting enough sleep each night is a challenge between work, family obligations, and the need to unwind. Sleep is as important as food though; if you don’t get enough rest, your body and mind both function at sub-par levels. So step five is to get plenty of sleep.

Step six is to create time to play. This means finding opportunites to do some sports, to dance, to enjoy yourself actively with friends. Step seven is to get some sunlight every day; vitamin D has a ton of health benefits and can also enhance your mood and raise your productivity.

Get Out & Have Fun

The eighth step is to avoid trauma. Sadly this isn’t always possible; but to some extent, certain traumas can be avoided simply by using common sense (and a seat belt), and making positive life choices (i.e. don’t do drugs). Trauma can injure your body chronically, and it can also damage your mind.

Step nine in the Primal Blueprint is to avoid toxic substances. This means not only eating natural foods, but not eating artificial substances like pesticides and chemical additives. Especially avoid refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup, trans and hydrogenated fats, and other problematic substances. Many people take it for granted that the “food” they are eating is really food, but much of what you pick up in the grocery store has been polluted with poisons. So take a careful look at the package before you eat something, even if it looks like food!

The final step in the Primal Blueprint is to exercise not only your body, but your brain. Find a way to invent and create, to do art or to experiment, and also to interact with other human beings. Exercising your brain like this can elevate your mood, protect you from developing dementia, and also change your life—just like the Primal Blueprint.

Where to Buy the Primal Blueprint

So seriously, just buy The Primal Blueprint. Not only will you be eating better food and enjoying superior health, but you’ll really be getting more out of life. You’ll learn not only how to work harder, but how to play harder. Reading this book is a great way to start in on that aforementioned 10th step of exercising your brain—and you may find that the other nine steps suit you too.

A lot of you are searching for The Primal Blueprint torrent or Primal Blueprint PDF. class="wp-caption-text">Primal Diet Foods

The primal diet is at the heart of the paleo lifestyle, an all natural lifestyle which will make you stronger, smarter, and healthier in every way. When you hear the word “diet,” you probably think, “Great, I won’t get to eat anything,” but in the case of the primal diet, you’d be wrong. The word “diet” here is used only in the most general sense—this is just a collection of rules, mostly guidelines, to help you to eat only organic, healthy foods, and shun unnatural food-like substances which are really only contaminants, not real food. By eating like your distant ancestors, you may be able to avoid some of the health pitfalls of modern life.

Primal Diet – The History

The Primal Diet is one aspect of Mark Sisson’s Primal Blueprint, 10 steps for living naturally. The Primal Blueprint Eating Plan tells us that protein is your top priority since it repairs cells and enzymes; this is why you’ll want to eat a lot of meat, eggs, and nuts. Carbs should be avoided (and will naturally be reduced if you just stick with the best paleo foods), and fats are not the horrible things that most popular diet fads might lead you to believe. Most of your energy will come from fats since it isn’t coming from carbs. Fats are healthier for you than carbs since they don’t negatively affect your insulin levels.

Primal Diet Food Variety

Primal Diet Foods – Dos and Don’ts

The Primal Blueprint Food List consists mostly of fruits, vegetables, and meats. You can also eat plenty of seeds, nuts, and eggs. There are no strict rules regarding dairy—dairy is mostly a personal choice based on your own body type and whether you’re adapted to it or not. While the Paleo Primal Diet doesn’t encourage you to eat a lot of carbs, the occasional dark bread or brown rice is okay now and again. Primal Diet recipes incorporate all of these food groups.

What can’t you eat as part of the Primal Diet? There can be absolutely no food-like substances. This includes high fructose corn syrup, processed sugars, and any other chemical additives. You need to be wary of buying foods which have been coated in pesticides too—sometimes even the fruit or vegetables at the grocery store are unsafe in this regard. While sugars are naturally present in some foods, you need to make sure you don’t buy foods with “sugar added” or sugar high on the ingredients list. The main thing to keep in mind is, if it didn’t exist in caveman times, don’t eat it.

The fantastic thing about this is in a way the Paleo diet doesn’t actually forbid any foods outright. While some foods are emphasized and others are somewhat discouraged, the only items which are forbidden are non-foods. Since you shouldn’t eat anything which isn’t a food, this makes perfect rational sense. Primal Diet reviews attest to how huge a transformation many people have made to their health just by cleansing their bodies through the Primal Diet. Since it isn’t very restrictive, it’s easy to maintain this “diet” for life, which is what makes it the central tenant of the paleo lifestyle!

Paleolithic Diet

American Paleo Diet

paleo diet review

paleo diet reviews

paleolithic diet

paleolithic diet breakfast

paleolithic diet criticism

paleolithic diet meal plan

paleolithic diet menu

paleolithic diet plan

paleolithic nutrition or diet

the paleolithic diet
<guid

Paleo diet reviews reveal the powerful impact this diet is making on the lives of many consumers around the world.

The Paleolithic Balanced Life

What is the Paleolithic diet? The Paleolithic diet isn’t really what you think of when you think of a “diet.” This isn’t a quick fix to your weight problems where you just stop eating carbs or fat for a month or cease eating adequately to attempt to starve your weight off. Instead, the Paleolithic diet is a lifestyle which is designed to support your health not only now, but forever. It doesn’t involve starving yourself, and there’s no specific nutrient which is off limits in the Paleolithic diet meal plan. This isn’t another no-carbs diet or zero-fat diet; this is just a general plan which encourages the consumption of natural, healthy foods, and discourages the consumption of processed foods or additives. It can easily be merged into your existing lifestyle.

By eating and exercising like your distant ancestors, who had to be in great shape to even survive, you can get in great shape yourself. Unlike other diets which can often actually harm your health, this one will enhance your health. Losing weight on the Paleolithic diet plan is just a positive side effect of the whole process! Not only that, but you won’t gain the weight right back after the diet is over, because there is no “over.” This is a way of life, and the changes to your weight, your muscle mass, and your health will be for the long term if you stick with it.

The Paleolithic Diet Menu

The Paleolithic diet menu is accessible to everyone, because it doesn’t outlaw a lot of foods, and it includes many healthy choices. Do you eat a lot of meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, eggs, and fish? If so, you’re already eating the right foods for Paleolithic nutrition. These are the foods your distant ancestors
<div

Your ancestors didn’t start eating grain until agriculture was developed, so you’ll be eating less of that on the Paleolithic diet plan. Some dark bread and brown rice now and again is fine though.

There are other “foods” you’ll avoid on the Paleolithic diet menu, but most of these “foods” are really food-like substances developed for our industrial society including chemical additives, refined and processed sugars, and high fructose corn syrup. These additives are toxins; most of them are already known to have negative health impacts, and not all those impacts are fully documented yet since their introduction into society was fairly recent for the most part. It’s well known though that corn syrup and sugar can cause disease and also amplify the symptoms of diseases which are already present.

The Paleolithic Diet and Lifestyle: More Than Just a Diet

Not only did your earliest ancestors eat healthier foods, but they also led healthier lifestyles in many other ways than most modern people manage to. They spent time outdoors each day and their work involved some low level aerobic activity—not a sedentary lifestyle at a desk. Nor did they go out of their way to push themselves to extremes every day in an attempt to lose weight. They did occasionally sprint or do heavy lifting as a matter of survival, but this was enough. They didn’t overexert themselves
<div

The Paleolithic lifestyle involves engaging in both low level and high level aerobic activities in reasonable moderation.

Moreover, our ancestors took time to enjoy themselves. Part of the Paleolithic diet lifestyle is to get out in the sun, enjoy games with friends, and involve yourself in creative endeavors which make demands on your mental resources. This can have a great effect on both your mood and your overall health.

If all of this sounds appealing to you, and you’re excited to start learning more about the Paleolithic diet, have a look around the rest of our website. You’ll learn about Paleolithic breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes, Paleolithic diet books, Paleolithic diet criticisms, and Paleolithic diet success stories. The Paleolithic diet is nothing short of living the way that nature designed you to exist. This means that adapting to the lifestyle should be relatively simple and stress free. The paleo diet is one of the most flexible and diverse diets you’ll ever eat, so no matter what you like to eat, you should be able to find plenty of appetizing Paleolithic diet recipes to your fancy!

Paleo Diet Recipes – Best Books

Our most highly recommended paleo diet cookbook is The Paleo Recipe Book. This book has over 370 recipes and is packed with photographs. The book is organized into 18 categories which are easy to browse to find what you’re hungry for (pork, fish, snacks, salads, stir fries, eggs & omelets, paleo diet breakfasts, paleo diet snacks, etc.). You’ll even find some unusual categories like offal and some exciting categories you may not expect to see in a “diet” book, like desserts!

The Paleo Recipe Book also contains some helpful advice including a paleo food list, a guide to help you hunt down natural food items online, a guide to good fats, easy cooking time and meat doneness charts, and a guide to cooking the perfect steak! Some of the recipes you’ll learn how to make include rib roast with horseradish and herbs, beef roulades, almond butter satay sauce, chicken marsala, cinnamon and apple omelet, halibut with green herb sauce, bacon wrapped scallops, and pumpkin pie.

(How many diets let you eat bacon? See why this is fantastic?)

The cookbook comes as a PDF eBook, and right now you get an 8 Weeks Meal Plan and Herbs & Spices Guide as a bonus.

A Paleo Diet Meal

The other cookbook we like is The Primal Blueprint Cookbook by blogger Mark Sisson. This cookbook includes even more scrumptious caveman diet recipes like Roasted Leg of Lamb with Herbs and Garlic, Tomatoes Stuffed with Ground Bison and Eggs, Salmon Chowder with Coconut Milk, and Baked Chocolate Custard. If you’ve checked out Mark’s Daily Apple, you already know that Mark Sisson is a smart writer with a thorough understanding of the paleo lifestyle. Like The Paleo Recipe book, this one’s got a lot of photographs—so if you’re a visual person, you’ll find plenty of dishes here to tempt you!

You won’t find any bland cuisine in either of these books! Some of them require rather sophisticated ingredients, but you should have no problem locating most of them at a typical metropolitan grocery mart. If you have picky kids, no problems there either; paleo recipes are great for kids and adults.

Example Free Paleo Diet Recipes from Mark Sisson

Creamy Grapefruit Lobster Salad with Avocados

If you like seafood and salad, this is a relatively simple dish you can throw together pretty quick.

Creamy Grapefruit Lobster Salad with Avocados

Nonetheless, it’s great for a special occasion too, owing to the lobster! For the salad you need:

2 avocados

2 lobster tails

Chopped cilantro for seasoning

1 grapefruit

4 slices of bacon

Mixed mesclun greens

And for the dressing:

½ lime

1 lemon

1.5 teaspoons of mustard

½ teaspoons of garlic for seasoning

1 shallot

¼ cup olive oil

¼ cup mayonnaise

Salt and pepper

Steps for the salad:

Boil some water in a pot with a bit of salt. Then cook the lobster in the water for 7-10 minutes.

Fry up the bacon and cut it into small pieces.

Get the meat out of the lobster shells. Chop the meat up and mix with the cilantro, bacon, and grapefruit.

Spoon the mixture you just made into the open halves of the avocados (removed from their skins).

Place the avocados with their lobster mixtures on top of the mixed greens.

Steps for the dressing:

Simply whisk all the ingredients together. Then pour it over the salad.

This is just one example of a paleo diet recipe which includes fruit, vegetables, seafood, and pork! Paleo diet recipes often include a lot of food groups, and as you can see, they are well seasoned and not bland at all. The Paleo Recipe Book and The Primal Blueprint Cookbook will both provide you with plenty of recipes like this. Some of these meals are light and others are heavy; some are great for breakfast, others for supper, and many are ideal for snacking or dessert. Your paleo diet recipes will be at the core of your healthy new lifestyle, so get cooking and enjoy!

Paleo Diet Food List

American Paleo Diet

paleo diet

paleo diet food

paleo diet food list

paleo diet foods

paleo diet for athletes

paleo diet menu

paleo diet menu plan

paleo diet plan

paleo diet weight loss

the paleo diet

paleo diet isn’t just a diet; it’s a lifestyle. It’s a fantastic way to reset your body to a more natural pace and enjoy a healthier existence living the way you were meant to. Your distant ancestors ate healthy foods and got a lot of exercise, but also observed a path of moderation. As a result, they were fit enough to survive in pretty tough circumstances. You may have a general idea about what’s in the Paleo Recipe Book, but what are the specific foods you can and can’t eat?

What You Can Eat on the Paleo Diet Food List

Paleo Diet Foods

As a general rule, you can eat vegetables, fruits, eggs, meats, seafood, and nuts. This covers pretty much every food group except for grains and junk “food.” So you’re not really restricted a lot in your paleo diet menu choices. Leafy colorful vegetables are some of the very best, like spinach, watercress and broccoli. Other great veggies include avocados, onions, cauliflower, zucchini, brussel sprouts, cabbage, endives and more. You can also eat pretty much anything as far as fruit goes, but berries are among the most recommended fruits because of their high antioxidant content and their low glycemic index. Tropical fruits have a higher glycemic index, so those probably shouldn’t top your daily menu. Again though, these are simply recommendations for the caveman diet food list; you can eat whatever fruits and vegetables you want.

Paleo Diet Food List – Meats

As far as meats go, you can eat either lean or non-lean meat. This isn’t a non-fat/low-fat diet. Some fats are good fats, and can actually have positive effects on your health. Some good plant-based sources of natural fats include avocados, olives, and coconuts. Turkey, pork, and chicken are particularly suggested on the Paleolithic food list. Likewise, dairy is also fine (though in a state of perpetual uncertainty where many nutritionists are concerned), and it’s a matter of personal choice what you want to do about the consistency of the milk you drink. We’ll come back to that in the next section.

Other foods you can eat include nuts and seeds. Walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, and pecans all provide excellent nutrition. Take note that peanuts aren’t actually nuts, but legumes.

Gray Area Foods on the Paleo Diet

Paleo Diet Foods With Dairy

Dairy, as mentioned before, is one of those foods which is debated regularly by nutritionists, including proponents of the paleo diet foods. A lot of people are lactose intolerant after the age of 4, but a lot of people also aren’t. And while Paleolithic people didn’t have a lot of common dairy products we have today, they certainly still fed their babies breast milk. So milk has always been a part of our diet in some form. Dairy products have been cited as both carcinogens and anti-cancer agents, and this hotly contested issue is still inconclusive. It does seem to be indicated that whole milk may actually have anti-cancer, properties and that reduced fat milk may be carcinogenic. Whether you drink whole milk or not should depend on whether your own digestive system can handle it. And if you are lactose intolerant, clearly you should just avoid dairy for your own good unless you can handle it in small amounts. If you aren’t lactose intolerant and you feel the same whether you consume dairy or not, go ahead and make your own choice about it.

Legumes like beans and peanuts are also argued about. This can also be a matter for your personal judgment. Whole grains, brown rice, and dark bread are fine in small doses. These can be good after a workout if you’re trying to build muscle, or if you’re prepping for a race, but they should be avoided later in the day.

There are really no hard and fast rules on any of this stuff. Eat nutritious, natural foods, use your own common sense, and listen to what your body tells you is best for you! Everyone is different, and there’s no “one size fits all.” This is a lifestyle, not a diet, and that means it should be tailored to your life, and your style!

What You Should Not Eat on the Paleo Diet

Foods To Avoid

What shouldn’t go on your paleo diet shopping list? The weird thing about the paleo diet food list is that today’s “foods” that aren’t really foods. Food-like substances are chemically manufactured and packaged as foods, but have no nutritional value, and may even be detrimental to your health. These include fake fats like corn oil, soybean oil, vegetable oil, and canola oil. Corn is technically a starchy grain, so you don’t want to eat it like it’s a veggie, and you want to avoid corn-based products. Especially, and above all, do not eat high fructose corn syrup. It will wreak havoc on your body. You also need to look out for sugar being added to products, especially juice. If you see “sugar” near the top of an ingredients list, it’s probably been added. Fruit juice is naturally sugary, because there are natural sugars which are present in fruits. A lot of fruit juice has even more sugar added to it though, so steer clear of these juices, and lean toward fruit juice with pulp. In other words, avoid “fructose without the fiber.”

As you can see, the list of paleo foods is actually most foods in any quantity, and some foods in moderate to reduced quantities, and a few foods not at all (most of which aren’t even properly foods). The paleo foods list has something for everyone. Paleolithic diet foods are diverse, delicious foods which you probably already enjoy, making this a relatively easy transition! Basically, the paleo diet food list says… just eat real food!

Paleo Diet Books

American Paleo Diet

caveman diet book

paleo diet book

paleo diet books

paleo solution ebook

paleolithic diet book

primal blueprint book

the caveman diet book

the paleo diet book

the paleo diet cookbook

the primal blueprint ebook
<guid
